India is always known for its culture worldwide. Every state in India has its regional festival. The festivals are celebrated with great prompt and joy across the state. The best part about the regional festival is the joy that is seen state wide. Bihu is a regional festival that is noted and recognized all over India. Bihu is the national festival of Assam. There are different types of bihu that Assamese people celebrate around the year. Mainly there are three bihu that comes around the year. Bihu being the main festival of Assam, the celebration is done in the most excited way and the whole state tunes in it.

The three bihu of Assam namely are bohaag bihu, maagh bihu and kaati bihu. Among all of them bohaag bihu is the most important one. It generally falls in the mid of April. The other two bihu’s are also celebrated with great joy in Assam but the joy and the celebration of bohaag bihu are worth a watch. People across the state wait for this particular celebration. Bihu dance is one of the most important things of this festival. It is celebrated in a very traditional way.

The main attraction of bihu is the traditionally food of Assam. Women prepare pitha and laru at home. These are the two important dishes prepared at the time of the festival. Pitha and laru are the sweet dish made out of rice powder, coconut etc. Apart from the food the other important attraction of bihu is dance. The entire state tunes in very well with bihu songs and bihu dance. Especially the joy is seen among the young generation of the state. They sing bihu songs are sang and people dance out of joy and happiness. Meet and greet is also done during this festival.
